Getting Your 4th Day in!!
For some reason, I have an easier time doing 3 days instead of 4, especially when I am able to do at least 3 days during the work week. This week I did three gym days last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (one spin class, one day on the elliptical trainer and one day on the stationary bike on my own) but had problems making it to the 4th day on my weekend. Lets face it; weekends are when we are supposed to veg out to prepare for the upcoming work week. The last thing we want to do is more work, right? Well, when I saw I wasn't going to make it physically to the gym, I chose a home workout consisting of several sets of push-ups, abdominal crunches and tricep dips (off a chair), then spent 20 minutes on back stretches suggested to me by my doctor. At least you have to do something, right? I chose to work on my core and flexibility for the last day to at least get some activity in. I urge everyone not to avoid core strength and flexibility exercises within your routine. These are things that you can even do when you first get up in the morning just to get things warmed up. I'd love to hear comments on what everyone else incorporates into their workouts! We all need to mix it up from time to time. - Vic

I agree getting 4 days in can be hard, especially if the 4th day will be on the weekend. Weekends can get really busy! Your 4th day workout sounds like an excellent workout and maybe trying to get those types of workouts into your routine will break up having to go to the gym so early in the morning. I'm finding I love working out at home in the evening around 8 or 9 pm. I've had time to unwind from the work day and let dinner settle. There's also the benefit of wearing myself out in the workout, so going to sleep is easier. I definitely think changing your routine up will keep you from getting bored and will be better for your body.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good suggestion. I have been having trouble getting in that fourth day, too. I have been so fixed on what I think the fourth day should be, that I ignored some other good options. Thanks for the idea!

Since I workout at home I've found it challenging to to come up with different things to do so I don't just get used to the same exercise. I found this great website called Sparkpeople.com that has great ideas for workouts at home.

Me too, that fourth day is hard. I have some hand weights and stretch band things because a few years ago I was seeing a physical therapist about arm pain. I have been neglecting those workouts, but that would be the perfect kind of exercise to shoe horn into a weekend...
