During my last Weight Watchers meeting my instructor made a point that made a lot of sense.
She was talking about how often people eat out on average - 5.8 times a week, which is a lot of opportunites to eat unhealthily - and she said that one way to help you make healthy meal choices is to remember that more often or not, the meal at the restaurant is not a special occasion for you. Ok, so if it is YOUR birthday (not you spouse's or kid's) or YOUR anniversary, go ahead a splurge if you feel that you must. Even if you included some holidays, you've got to figure that less than 15 times a year, the meal away from home is not a special occasion for YOU. If you are going out to lunch for a co-worker's birthday, that is not YOUR special occasion-make a healthy choice and don't overeat. If you are just eating out cuz you don't want to cook-that is not a special occasion. Even dinner over at a friend or family member's house isn't necessarily a special occasion. I think you get the picture. Decide what is a special occasion for YOU. This way you aren't using the excuse that just because you are at restaurant its ok to overindulge. Good luck with your next meal away from home!
Next time you eat out, try to go online and look up the menu and nutritional values so you can make great choices. Believe me, it will be an eye opener!
